AMENDMENT NEEDED for COUNCIL

VOC is putting this topic out, although it would be just another policy or  law that would simply be ignored or trashed.  A Code of Conduct is a self-policing of actions, mostly based on ethics and laws, possibly with common sense thrown in.  That is the reason we think any such code would be ignored or trashed.

The most crucial amendment needed now in reference to the National Council is Term Limits! The Principal Chief's position has a two-term limit and I believe that the National Council should be the same. We have far too many career politicians (Fife, Barnett, Tiger, to name a few) that have turned the responsibilities of the National Council into a micro-managing body. They have assumed the role of a super power that feels it only has to enact laws but not follow them. If decisions go against them, they will not re-confirm the person that had the gall to oppose them, irregardless if it was the proper decision. They have their hands in too many pockets out there! It is time for our citizens to take our tribal government back! Obtain a copy of our Tribal Constitution and learn what your rights are.

Marvelous - Hope there will be info as to how citizen voters who are not living in the Creek Nation may sign such an amendment. When the hog has been at the trough for two many terms the cure is make bacon.

Yes, it is time to take a stand. My heart is on the ground to see so much greed driving the decisions in our Council and Government. It seems so many people who work for the tribe are living in constant fear of reproach from the council. The stories I hear about how if a councilman/woman doesn't like somebody, they will lose their job!
We, as citizens of the Creek Nation, MUST speak out and be heard. Let the council KNOW we will not stand for them doing things "the way they have always been done".
There are many who struggle to pay the propane bills at this time of year. Yet, the council voted to provide many hundreds of thousands of dollars to pay the attorney's fees for the defendants in a case before our District Court. Why are we paying the attorneys who are defending people who are on trial for inappropriate management of gaming money. It is Tribal money which could be put to better use for elders and children who are in need.
What happened to hiring, and electing, the right people for the job, instead of because we know them, or they are kin, or maybe if I elect them, they will do something for me?
To continue the way things are, and have been, will be the death of our People's Sovereignty, not to mention destroying the future of our children.

    Read the Constitution!
    Know your Rights!
    Speak the Truth!
Stand up for your beliefs, and know in your heart the beliefs you stand for are worth fighting for.

    I will stand with you.
