I would like to start a new topic: CONSTITUTIONAL AMENDMENTS..DID OUR PEOPLE NOT VOTE FOR AMENDMENTS TO OUR MVSKOKE CONSTITUTION?! WHY ARE WE LETTING "CERTAIN INDIVIDUALS" TELL US THE AMENDMENTS ARE NOT LEGAL?! WE AS ESTE CATE SET BACK AND LET "CERTAIN PEOPLE" CHANGE OUR CONSTITUTION IN THE 70'S - DID WE QUESTION OUR PEOPLE THEN? WE MADE ARE PEOPLE ACCEPT THE CHANGES TO OUR CONSTITUTION THEN AND THAT IS WHAT WE LIVE WITH TODAY...NOW OUR PEOPLE VOTED AGAIN ON CHANGES TO OUR CONSTITUTION., AND WE ARE WAITING FOR WHAT???? ARE WE AFRAID OF THAT ESTE HETKE-ROBERT TREPP OR NATIONAL COUNCIL? AND WHY ARE WE SILENT! A BILL TO AMENDMENT THE CONSTITUTION IS ON THE BUSINESS & GOVERNMENTAL COMMITTEE AGENDA TODAY IS THE COUNCIL THE ONLY ONES ALLOWED TO INTRODUCE AMENDMENTS TO THE CONSTITUTION? WE AS CITIZENS VOTED AND THOSE VOTES WERE THROWN AWAY! NOT TO MENTION THE COST (OUR MONEY) FOR THE CONSTITUTIONAL CONVENTION AND ELECTION! SOMETHING IS WRONG WITH OUR NATION AND I BELIEVE ITS TIME FOR THE PEOPLE TO TAKE BACK OUR NATION AND STOP LETTING "CERTAIN PEOPLE" DECIDE FOR US. THEY ARE NOT REPRESENTING THIS NATION THEY ARE REPRESENTING THEMSELVES.. AND I DON'T BELIEVE THEY REPRESENT ESTE CATE SOUNDS LIKE OUR COUNCIL IS SIDING WITH ONE MAN - ROBERT TREPP IS HE EVEN A CITIZEN?; WHAT ABOUT ALL THE PEOPLE WHO VOTED FOR THE CHANGES - SOMEONE NEEDS TO REVISIT THE ELECTION RESULTS AND SEE HOW MANY PEOPLE VOTED FOR CHANGE! I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW WHICH COUNCIL REPRESENTATIVE VOTED TO SUE OUR PEOPLE IN COURT - IT WAS OUR PEOPLE WHO VOTED! I AM NOT A VERY EDUCATED PERSON BUT I BELIEVE YOUR SUING THE WRONG PEOPLE - I DON'T KNOW HOW THE CHIEF OR THE ELECTION BOARD VOTED BUT I KNOW THAT I VOTED FOR CHANGE ALONG WITH HUNDREDS OF OTHER CITIZENS! I GUESS ROBERT TREPP & 26 OTHER PEOPLE WEREN'T HAPPY WITH THE RESULTS SO THEY TAKE IT TO COURT.. THOSE 26 PEOPLE (NATIONAL COUNCIL) ARE SUPPOSE TO REPRESENT THE WHOLE NATION - ISN'T THAT IN OUR CONSTITUTION TODAY! DON'T THESE 26 PEOPLE TAKE SOME KIND OF OATH TO UPHOLD THE CONSTITUTION. ARE THEY TRADERS? WELL I DO KNOW THEY ARE REPRESENTING 1 PERSON! I KNOW ROBERT TREPP DOESN'T SPEAK FOR ME OR MY PEOPLE! THE COUNCIL REPRESENTATIVES MY FAMILY VOTED FOR ARE NOT REPRESENTING US! IT IS TIME FOR CHANGE AND PEOPLE NEED TO SPEAK UP! I WOULD LIKE TO VOTE FOR NEW COUNCIL REPRESENTATIVES WHEN THEY GO BY THEIR OWN AGENDA AND FORGET ABOUT OUR PEOPLE & NATION!

Bill Fife wants to amend the Constitution so that the chief and second chief run on the same ticket. This was a Proposed Amendment that was previously introduced in the Constitutional Convention but either defeated or tossed out. I believe this is the amendment Mr. Este Cate Mvhe is referring to. What ever Bill Fife has in mind we can be certain that it is not to help citizens but to give Bill Fife and his cronies an advantage in the next election. Let’s say that George Tiger is going to run for the Principle Chief’s Office and he has found someone who he believes has an unassailable reputation upon whose coattail he can cling to get him over the top, is behind Fife‘s actions.
Keep in mind that Bill Fife is among ten Representatives that will bite the dust at the next election as we streamline our Council to sixteen members. He’s out there on the limb that he’s been sawing on since the Convention ended. He has nothing to lose since his only chance to save his seat on the Council is take drastic measures. Bill Fife’s only reason to exits is to be on the Council because to be a politician is his only ability. He can’t make life better for citizens, can’t ensure a better future for our children or ensure economic stability or improve our health system, or do anything to improve our standard of living. It takes no talent or special skills to be a politician, except to be able to control or influence people in an ingenious or devious way, which appear to be his forte.
Bill Fife can’t find a candle in which to light the darkness and that’s why all he does is curse it.

The new proposed amendment, introduced & sponsored by Bill Fife is #NCA 10-017.
As one prone to take copious notes which I looked up, I find that the proposed amendment #A-39 failed to come out of the convention by a vote of 57 YES - 93 NO. Mr. Fife was present at the convention and did not speak up or against ANY amendment. So there you are, that may be his way of cursing the citizen's votes. He HAS been in the forefront of trying to kill the amendments that were passed by the citizens who voted.

Not me, kemosabe! I never voted for him. We now have ways of tracking character, morals and ethics via technology. We have other ways too.
If Fife ran for chief now, look out. Fewer people would be fooled again.

This might not relate to the current topic, but I just want to say that I'm very disappointed in my tribe! When you take the time to talk to others, they say Creek Nation is the worst, and will be lucky if they ever catch up.....that is so disturbing! Our tribe fights more with each other than working together!!! Looking at this page, we are arguing about petty things, however, some points are so true. I understand one can't make every single person happy, but shouldn't we as a tribe work together as 'ONE' for the better of the tribe? Agree to disagree, but look at the big picture....Is this what our kid's(our future) have to look forward to...arguing and bitterness? Those that have got us to where we are should be rolling over in their graves! PLEASE stop thinking/doing for "ME" and start do for "US"! All of us can contribute! Fight, but fight in a positive way!

To Concerned Young Adult: You are right to be disappointed. We are our own worst enemy. We as Creek people are unable to find the middle ground to work as 'ONE'. The big picture is because of the apathy of our people. They know or sense the wrongs happening, but they won't do anything about it. They won't talk to the offending council members, won't vote, but will retain bitterness about things which noone knows of. Sometimes, we have to fight the only way an opponent can understand or comprehend. If the opponent thinks we won't do anything about the wrongs they are committing, they will no longer listen to us, which is the point we are at now. Fight fire with fire. We could get through some heads. Keep in mind the reason we keep hammering is because there is a faction of the council who invariably step right over or on our MCN Constitution, and never caring about any consequences from you or me or the courts.

I say to you again with sympathy and kindness, don’t preach, do something. You are the Nation that disappoints you so. Don’t tell people what they should do, do it yourself. Use the VOC Model. There are hundreds of ways an intelligent person like yourself can do to put ideas into motion. You still have the ability to think creatively, spontaneously and independently. When you get a good idea, act on it before someone, or even yourself, tells you that your ideas won’t work. You can organize a group to brainstorm ideas. It is always a good thing when people gather and talk, even if it is a small group. Group generated ideas can help you work out possible ways of doing things. Keep us informed in what you are doing. We wish you good luck and our love.

I feel your anger my friend. I just have wonder why wait till after the election to bring this suit. If they thought the amendments were illegal, then they should have sued before the election took place. I am very much with you. I believe the Supreme Court should have toss this crap out the door. But instead they booted it back to the lower court. What a waste of Creek money. This constitution amendment process has gone on as long as the Iraq war....enough all ready, lets get on with it.
By the way, there is no stop from the court that I know of...if people want to write a petition and get signatures...I think they should get her done...

Really don't think all 26 council members voted no.I talked with some of the council members and they are in favor of the citizens.Citizens need to make calls to the ones that voted for the court hearing and let them explain why they voted that way.It't the peoples goverment.Take it back starting now.
(VOC: All of our readers would certainly appreciate the names of Council members who voted FOR the lawsuit. We do know a few members voted against it, but we were not privy to the voting and we would like to know their names too. Somebody, give us the names.)

the motion made by Roger Barnett was to file a case in Supreme Court - the vote was all in favor except Steve Bruner and Terrie Anderson. Supreme Court ruled and then the Council filed in District Court. There are no records for filing this case in District Court / one day it was filed in District Court signed by Thomas Yahola. Need to ask your local district representative.. mine didn't even know they filed a case in District Court.

Is it the same ones who voted to file the lawsuit in Discourt Court ? We would like to know that too.

Yes the bill introduced by Rep Fife passed and is on its way to the full council. The bill is for Chief & Second Chief to run on the same ticket but with another clause - if the Chief resigns or death the Second Chief becomes Chief BUT IF THE SECOND CHIEF RESIGNS OR DEATH - THE CHIEF WILL APPOINT THE SECOND CHIEF OF COURSE WITH COUNCIL APPROVAL.. So that is an interesting clause and next amendment to the Constitution.

I hope Fife isn't planning to do away with any Chiefs or 2nd Chiefs. Maybe he is planning to force out our present Chief and 2nd Chief. It would be smething to look for in the future. Personally, I wouldn't put anything past Fife and his clique.

THIS COMMENT REFERS TO: NCA 10-017, sponsored by Bill Fife. It is on the 1/30/2010 CN Agenda.
The offices of the Chief and 2nd Chief are ELECTED positions, elected by the citizens, without benefit of Council's approval, and it should always remain so.
Why does Fife want it to be an offices approved by Council? It is entirely up to the voting citizens to approve who the Chief and 2nd Chief will be. No matter if one of them quits or dies. PERIOD.
This is just another ploy in attempts to give all authority to the Council - another attempt to VOID the votes of the citizens. He appears to be terrified of the citizens' votes. We really have to VOTE HIM OUT.

How do we start our 'petitions'?
Do we have to get someone on the council so write legislation like this?
If we want council to be drug tested, background searches done, credit reports pulled do we have to begin with the council?
Where do we take our changes to laws or amendments to the consitution?
We passed the amendment now how do we begin?

For what ever reason for the Bill and Gang committee wanting to amend the constution for Chief and second Chiet to run on the same ticket isn't good.Really it's fine the way it is. Something is up for the next election.

I agree something is up for Bill and his gang. I don't know what he was like as Chief, but all he has shown us since becoming a council member is that he is always trying to do anything that is against the present chief. Is it sheer hatred or anger because he was beaten at the polls by the Chief. Whatever he does usually turns to be deceitful, unethical or anti-Constitution. How can we respect him as a former Chief when he doesn't respect us citizens?

That's why they are fighting the amendments to the constuition. When we vote at large the leaches like the fifes and tigers will fade back into the shadows of depression just like Tiger did after the Chief beat him in the last election. I hear he curled up in a ball and cried like a baby. HUH George??????

WE BETTER GET A GRIP!!
The National Council has managed to throw the 'Amendment Election' in the the trash now known as 'Muscogee Nation District Court.'
By not confirming Judge Moore and perhaps putting their own chosen Judge in - you can be certain the new Judge will side with the National Council and put the election in the trash.
Wait and see - there will be legislation that comes from this council to do away with elections all together. They will put all the power in the council and place themselves wherever they see fit, with salaries set by them (oh, that's how it is now) and we will have nothing to do with our government but to stand in the social service line.

To Wotko70. Are you asking why the old issue is still on our web? If that's you're asking, it's because the case is still unresolved, and its still active in court. Some web visitors may be interested in what comments have been submitted. Why the lawsuit is settled, the topic will be removed.

Whatever we say or do, the Council will still vote on this legislation that Rep. Fife is introducing. They may get the votes to bring it before the citizens to vote on but when it does come to the citizens as a referendum vote. we can defeat it by all voting NO!
They can't make this law themselves, the citizens have to decide at the polls. So don't get too upset.
